[IQUG] char and varchar

Hi, all.

It seems that char(n) and varchar(n) use the same amount of storage, according to SAP documentation. I thought there would be 1 or 2-byte overhead for varchar. Maybe it has changed in later releases?

What about join performance? For example, assuming there are always 20 non-blank values in the columns, would join on char(20) PK/FK be faster than varchar(20) pair?

Thanks,
