[IQUG] Changing the storage

OK. That makes is much simpler.

Can you have both the old and new storage connected to IQ at the same time?

Or do you want to move the data from old to new while IQ is down?

My preference would be that both the old and new storage is connected to IQ at the same time. Doing this, you have two easy ways to move data.

  * Both methods will move IQ data in its compressed, block formats making it faster than any kind of unload and reload
  * Create a new dbspace with the new storage (would require the VLDB option)
     * Allows you to move object by object
     * Use ALTER TABLE MOVE to move the table from one dbspace to another.
  * Add new storage to existing dbspace
     * Allows you to move file by file
     * Once the new devices are added, mark all the old devices as read only. This prevents new data from going to the old devices.
     * Use sp_iqemptyfile on a dbspace file by file basis to migrate data from the old file to the new files
     * If you can have both sets of storage on IQ at the same time for a long period (say a month or so), you can simply delay running sp_iqempty file
        * IQ will naturally move data to the new (writeable) devices and remove it from the old
        * Won’t happen overnight and it won’t move all the data only the pieces that are changing.
        * Could even rebuild some indexes, if wanted/needed which would move that index to the new storage

Same system, only the storage is changed.

All system / user / archive / temp are on the same system. The system will be same but new LUN (Storage) will be exposed to existing IQ.

Same systems? Or are you building a new system for IQ?

Subject: [IQUG] Changing the storage

Hi,

We are looking to change the complete storage from Storage A to Storage B, (sample name A as old and B as new storage)

All DB files are configured on Storage A, now we have to migrate everything from A to B. what are the possible ways out to migrate data seamlessly

Thanks,
