[IQUG] IQ 16 Multiplex shared disk cluster

Clustered LVM is not required.

Any type of shared storage technology can be used.

I typically use fiber SAN, although you can use iSCSI or even NFS.

Personal experience is with EMC (clarion,vmax), HP, and many others.

Typical configuration consists of luns presented to multiple hosts, and RAW
devices created on RHEL for each lun on each host.

Im currently using IBM SSD array for one customer.

Each host in the MPX defines RAW devices in /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules
file, and the raw devices are mapped through soft-links to IQ stores.

For example:

$ dbisql -c dsn=ssrxdeviq1 "df;"

t rw db_space db_file size used free usage path

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------

m rw IQ_SYSTEM_MAIN main0            16g 3.23g 12.8g 20.2% dev/main0

m rw IQ_SYSTEM_MAIN main1            16g 3.22g 12.8g 20.2% dev/main1

t rw IQ_SYSTEM_TEMP temp0           128g 10.7m  128g  0.0% dev/temp0

t rw IQ_SYSTEM_TEMP temp1           128g 10.5m  128g  0.0% dev/temp1

m rw IQ_USER_MAIN   user0           256g 63.3g  193g 24.7% dev/user0

m rw IQ_USER_MAIN   user1           256g 63.4g  193g 24.7% dev/user1

m rw IQ_USER_MAIN   user2           256g 63.3g  193g 24.7% dev/user2

m rw IQ_USER_MAIN   user3           256g 63.3g  193g 24.7% dev/user3

$ ls -l dev/

total 4

Subject: [IQUG] IQ 16 Multiplex shared disk cluster

Curious what folks are using as their shared disk cluster software for IQ 16
Multiplex on Redhat (RHEL 6). SAP online whitepapers and knowledgebase
articles have little to no detail and simply state that a clustered LVM is
needed for the nodes to share the devices.

Thanks,
